Spring Book Fair is a HUGE Success

Thank You Volunteers!

Curtsinger’s “Book Fair Diner: All You Can Read” Spring Book Fair was a huge success—thanks to all our awesome volunteers who donated many hours to make the fair look so great and run so smoothly.  Simply put, we would not be able to have such a great fair without the support of our many volunteers and friends who donate their time.  From our “wall chairs”—the people who plan how the fair will be decorated to the helpers who come in and cut, paste, glue, and whatever else is needed during decorating week to the ones who work at the registers and come in early (5:45 A.M. to help pass out donuts and coffee during Donuts with Dads) and stay late during our evening event—we appreciate your help and enthusiasm.  And of course, a special Thank You to our sponsors who help us put hundreds of books in our classrooms.  Your support is so appreciated by everyone in the school—teachers and students alike.

How We Faired

Our fair is one of the largest in the state of Texas and the largest in Frisco ISD.  We sold more than 2,000 books and collected $22,329 during the fair.  After taxes and expenses are taken out, Mrs. Janice Scott, our librarian, will have more than $5,100 to use to purchase books for the library as well as other items for the school.  She also receives more than $3400 in “Scholastic Dollars” that she uses on books and other items from the Scholastic catalog.

Mrs. Scott recently used book fair profits to purchase much needed speakers and microphones for the school.  In addition, she added a lot of new books to the library and classrooms our students will be able to enjoy for years to come.  This is what makes our library the best in Frisco ISD.

One for Books

The students donated $154 for the One for Books program.  This program allows us to donate books to a designated group that needs help.  This year, Curtsinger donated $294 to Frisco ISD’s new Early Childhood School.  This school is for Frisco’s pre-K students who will be attending our schools soon.  Their librarian, Jill Fair, was so excited about receiving our gift.  She will be able to select books from their book fair which will have a better selection of Pre-K books.

Summer Reading Challenge

Scholastic has asked Curtsinger to participate in their Summer Reading Challenge.  This challenge will include logging reading minutes each day during the summer.  The Top 20 schools with the most minutes read will be listed in Scholastic’s World Book of Records 2011!  We think Curtsinger can do it!  We will send information in Thursday folders beginning in April.  To help with our efforts to read more than any other school in the country, Scholastic has offered Curtsinger a “Buy 1 Get 1 Free” book fair.  This “no frills, no decorating” fair will be in May and will offer a different selection of books than our recent fair—many from past fairs.

Thank you again to everyone who helped to make the book fairs so successful.  If you were unable to take advantage of this fun opportunity, please consider helping in May or in the Fall.  You’ll find it time well spent.
